Control Panel

The Ruby Dry whole house dehumidifier has a top mounted control panel/ There are 3 humidity settings, 40, 50 & 60% rH. Normally you would set it at 50% but in colder weather conditions you may need to reduce that to 40% to combat condensation on windows.

The Ruby Dry also has 3 fan speeds so the machine can used manually therefore overriding the inbuilt humidistat. Low sound levels at just 29dBA on low speed. The control panel features a “full tank” warning light indicating when the tank should be emptied.

A “check warning” light will also illuminate if the humidity has exceeded its operating range or should there be a fault.

Performance

Though the performance of the Ruby Dry is 5.5 litres per day this is about equivalent to an 18L per day refrigerated machine. Notice from the graph that the extraction rate stays pretty much level throughout a range of temperatures. This is why it is such a popular dehumidifier particularly in the UK and northern climates.

Remember that a normal dehumidifier might state that its extraction rate is 20L per day but that is based upon the machine operating in either 30 or 32 deg C & 80 or 90% relative humidity. Now as we don’t live in a tropical rain forest these high extraction rates are purely academic.

Ruby Dry Dehumidifier Operation

So How does it work

Its very simple. The cooler moist air is drawn in through the air intake filters and is readily adsorbed within a slowly rotating silica based disc that is constructed similar to a honeycomb.

There is a heater in the Ruby Dry that varies its output from 100 to 450w. A small internal fan blows heated air onto a portion of the rotating disc and therefore the moisture is effectively boiled out of the disc to a high temperature vapour. This vapour can immediately condense to a liquid that falls into the reservoir.

A very simple process that has been around for many years commercially but only during the past 4 years have we seen this process in a domestic dehumidifier.

Consumable Items

The Ruby Dry Dehumidifier comes with a separate carbon filter that attaches to the main filter by 2 Velcro strips. Carbon filter are primarily designed to minimise or reduce odour but in our view the carbon filter should be used to help protect the dehumidifier. When cleaning the filters and do this every 2 weeks, also vacuum out the carbon filter. If the carbon filter is really blocked the we can supply a new filter for £15 but to begin with why not wash the filter, let it dry and then reuse it. Do not allow a blanket of dust to form on the main filter.

No other consumable items are required and unless in the unlikely event of the Ruby Dry developing a fault then there is nothing to replace.

Please Note: The Ruby Dry is not suitable for use within small enclosed areas or where humidity levels are in excess of 85%rH. Where very high humidity exists it may be required initially to use additional heating in conjunction with the dehumidifier. Not suitable for cold damp cellars or basements or areas with poor ventilation without ensuring adequate air movement to improve the effectiveness of the dehumidifier, for this we recommend the use of portable fans particularly for confined spaces e.g. cellars and small rooms.

Ruby Dry does not feature auto restart and can not be used with a time clock
